How to avoid rejection of Custom Templates
By following these guidelines, you can increase the likelihood of your custom template being accepted and avoid rejection.
- Message template name is unclear: The name of the template should clearly indicate the context of the message. It's important to ensure that the template name accurately reflects the content of the message. If the name is too generic or unclear, it may lead to the rejection of the template.
- Message template asks for sensitive information: WhatsApp places a lot of emphasis on user privacy, and asking for personal information such as passwords, bank details, or social security numbers can lead to the rejection of the message template. It's important to ensure that the message template does not ask for any sensitive information from the user.
- The message formatting is not right: The formatting of the message is an important factor in ensuring that the message is easy to read and understand. The header, message body, and footer should be in the correct format as per the guidelines provided by WhatsApp. If the formatting is incorrect, the template may get rejected.
- Message template has spelling or grammatical errors: A message template that contains spelling or grammatical errors may not be trusted by users, and may lead to the rejection of the template. It's important to ensure that the message template is error-free and well-written.
- The content is non-transactional in nature: WhatsApp allows businesses to send transactional messages to their customers, but promotional messages are not allowed. The message template should not contain any promotional words or text. If the content is non-transactional in nature, the template may get rejected.
- Message templates have floating placeholders: A message template that contains lines with just placeholders and no text can be abused to spam customers. WhatsApp has strict guidelines around the use of placeholders, and the message template should not contain any floating placeholders.
- Message template is too generic: The message template should provide sufficient detail about the transaction or communication. If the template is too generic and lacks details, it may get rejected.
- Selected message category is wrong: The message template should be labeled correctly based on its category. If the wrong category is selected, the template may get rejected.
- Selected language didn't match the content: The selected language and the content language of the message template should match. If the selected language doesn't match the content language, the template may get rejected.
How to Avoid Rejections for Templates?
- Variable parameters contain special characters such as a #, $, or %.
- You have included Emojis in Header.
- The message template contains content that violates WhatsApp’s Commerce Policy: When you offer goods or services for sale, we consider all messages and media related to your goods or services, including any descriptions, prices, fees, taxes and/or any required legal disclosures, to constitute transactions. Transactions must comply with the WhatsApp Commerce Policy.
- The message template contains content that violates the WhatsApps Business Policy: Do not request sensitive identifiers from users. For example, do not ask people to share full length individual payment card numbers, financial account numbers, National Identification numbers, or other sensitive identifiers. This also includes not requesting documents from users that might contain sensitive identifiers. Requesting partial identifiers (ex: last 4 digits of their Social Security number) is OK.
- The content contains potentially abusive or threatening content, such as threatening a customer with legal action or threatening to publicly shame them.
- The message template is a duplicate of an existing template. If a template is submitted with the same wording in the body and footer of an existing template, the duplicate template will be rejected.
