WhatsApp quality rating: how it works and how to keep it high

WhatsApp scores every business number on how recipients react to its messages over the past 7 days — blocks, reports and block-reasons weigh heaviest. The rating has three states: Green (high), Yellow (medium), Red (low). You can see yours in SuperLemon's WhatsApp settings and in WhatsApp Manager.

Statuses that matter

  • Flagged — quality hit Low. You can't upgrade messaging tiers while flagged. Improve within 7 days and status returns to Connected; stay low and your messaging limit may drop a tier.
  • Restricted — you hit your messaging limit; business-initiated messages pause until the 24-hour window resets (replies to customers still work).

Keeping it green

  • Message customers who expect to hear from you — surprise messages get reported.
  • Add the opt-out button to marketing and cart campaigns — SuperLemon honours opt-outs automatically; an opt-out is always better than a block.
  • Personalize and space out sends; don't blast daily promos to your whole list.
  • Watch quality after each new template — if rating dips within a day or two of a campaign, that template is the suspect.

Recovering from a dip

  1. Pause the campaigns/templates that coincided with the drop.
  2. Keep sending only high-engagement messages (order updates to recent buyers) for ~7 days.
  3. Keep response conversations healthy — replies signal wanted messages. Then resume gradually.

Frequently asked questions

What does a low WhatsApp quality rating do?

Sustained low quality (red) can move your number to Flagged status, block tier upgrades, or decrease your messaging limit. Quality recovers by pausing problem campaigns and messaging only engaged, opted-in customers for about a week.
